Ceremonial
This piece is a fusion of the two biggest influences which appear in Štěpán’s art- Norse mythology and petroglyphs. According to Nordic sagas, Ulfhednars were considered to be a type of berserker, fierce warriors who fought with uncontrollable rage and strength. They were said to have entered into a trance-like state before battle, where they would become wolf-like in nature, howling and biting their shields.
They are often linked to Odin who is portrayed on this piece accompanied by his two ravens Huginn and Muninn. The whole design is inspired by reliefs from Torslunda plates dated to the 6th–8th century AD found in Öland, Sweden.
