The Gate
Most motifs in Jihoon’s work are derived from traditional Asian patterns, symbols, and architecture. He found a direction of portraying them in flat, two-dimensional, and modern forms.
The masked figure represents the guardian at the gate of Buddhist temples. And the background structure represents the simplified temple gate structure in two dimensional.

Jihoon Choi
BerlinBorn and raised in Busan, South Korea, and grown up surrounded by visual arts, Jihoon Choi had many opportunities in his childhood to familiarise himself with techniques in drawing, painting, and ceramic art.
He started learning design in high school and then pursued industrial design at university. Since 2017, he has worked professionally as a tattooist in Berlin.
