This artwork is part of the Lilies series which John began in 2021. This series is inspired by Monet’s Water Lilies paintings and aims to call the observer to the color innovations that Monet revealed through this series of 250 paintings. Monet’s work with expressing ultraviolet light through the medium of paint directly influences John’s approach to color. By using a flat pink background, John creates a color field that brings the rest of the lily elements to life.
