Born in Moscow, and having immigrated to Montreal at the age of 10, Pavel Sokov discovered early in life his two passions: Science and Art. Cutting-edge scientific ideas from Science Fiction authors, Stanisław Lem and Isaac Asimov were the main inspiration for Sokov’s earlier artistic endeavors.
Pavel transitioned to realistic portraiture, his current focus, after attending Watts Atelier in California. Working with live models motivated Pavel to focus on authentic storytelling. He is fascinated by the narratives, textures, traditions and people he encountered throughout his many world travels, which birthed his series “Stories of the World”. Most recently, Sokov spent a month in the Omo Valley of Ethiopia, staying with 6 different tribes. This adventure has birthed Sokov’s current project “The Stories of the Tribes of Ethiopia”. Lastly, Sokov also has an ongoing project called “Gravitas” in which he commemorates his favorite heroes of science via portraiture.
