Thannyo de Freitas

Panama

Thannyo de Freitas was born on April 25, 1976, in the province of Colón. To pursue his studies, he relocated to Panama City. From a young age, he displayed innate artistic talents and enthusiastically participated in numerous painting and drawing competitions. He won a scholarship that marked the beginning of his academic training, which culminated at the University of Panama, where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts and specialized in Visual Art with an emphasis on Drawing and Painting.

Thannyo, a nature enthusiast, provides moments of meditation through the realism and serenity of his art. His landscapes draw inspiration from the vibrant colors of the tropics, the tranquil waters of lakes, the presence of seven herons (symbolizing him and his six siblings), birds with white plumage representing purity, and the captivating floating islands conceived by his imagination. These elements lead us to appreciate harmonious trees like the Guayacán (yellow) and Jacaranda (purple), with their mystical touch of white, among others.

His constant interaction with nature and his desire to perfect every detail of it lead him to observe the suspended roots in a piece of land. This experience fills him with inspiration and demonstrates that even small plants possess strong roots capable of sustaining and giving life. Thannyo, through his works, passionately conveys the significance of the family’s foundation, believing in oneself and serving as examples of life for others.

Over the years, he has earned significant recognition through both individual and collective exhibitions, both nationally and internationally. This has resulted in a career spanning over 20 years, during which his paintings have received global acclaim. Presently, he is represented in Panama, New York (Manhattan), El Salvador, Brazil (Sao Paulo), and the Dominican Republic. In 2019, he was selected by CFM International, in collaboration with GE (General Electric) and Safran Aircraft Engines, for his artwork “Serenity” to be featured in their annual calendar. Only twelve artists from around the world are chosen for this honor, granting them the privilege of headlining the first month of the year and representing Panama.
