Embracing Imperfection

This artwork combines two of Brian Kirchof’s recent styles: the Neutral series, inspired by the natural hues of local bedrock revealed during highway construction, and the Raw series, reflecting a more organic, unrefined approach. This piece encapsulates both his aesthetic and his philosophy toward painting.

The color palette of blues, teals, and varied shades of yellow and orange contrasts sharply with the earthy backdrop, symbolizing the tension between human attempts to impose order and the organic flow of nature. The structured squares represent mankind’s interventions on the natural landscape, creating a compelling contrast as the viewer’s eye moves across the piece.

Brian Kirchoff

USA
A self-taught abstract artist based in the US; Brian Kirchoff creates visually interesting abstracts with an edge. His acrylic paint application methods rarely feature the brush, but instead squirt bottles, brayers, rags, spray paint, scrapers, fingers, palette knives and anything else he can find that adds interest to his paintings. His use of line, color field and concept speak specifically to humankind and its imprint on the natural world. Embracing the discovery process, his technique responds to the imperfect results of his application of paint on the canvas. His style is one that responds to each small step as the paint is laid down, taking him to new and interesting directions.
