Hippo

Hippo is a part of the mural “Animals”. The style is fresh and loosened, Anton + Aiguabella were influenced in this project by the illustrations they read to their children by the Canadian writer Jon Klassen. They spotted a formalism of “legs” all over Klassen’s books in his childish animals. When they worked together on the mural, they started “seeing” animals by chance. they named them once they were created: the hippo, the rabbit, and the turtle… but the origin was something purely compositional and color-driven.

Anton + Aiguabella

Madrid
Paul Anton and Bea Aiguabella, the artistic duo known as Anton + Aiguabella, share not only their studio but also a deep connection as a couple. Their creative partnership is a reflection of their personal bond, which has resulted in both individual and collaborative works that showcase their mutual influence on each other. With three children in their family, their artistic journey is intertwined with their life together. Trained as architects, their artistic endeavors carry a strong constructivist ethos, evident in their works. Following the completion of their MFA at the University of the Arts London, they made the decision to relocate to Madrid, where they now realize their dream of a shared art studio. In this tranquil environment, they seek solace and silence, using their art to convey a profound sense of calmness and serenity. Their compositions and use of color serve as the foundation for this endeavor, creating works that exude a soothing and harmonious energy.
