William and the Sea Birds

Growing up on Long Island, Juliet visited the Great South Bay almost every day. She was always fascinated by all of the sea birds that would be perched on the old docks and pilings, and used to bring her sketchbook and draw the birds that she saw. Sometimes, it would get very foggy down by the water, and it would become almost impossible to see anything further than ten feet in front of her. Juliet began to think about what might happen in the fog when we are unable to see into it and came up with this concept. She loves thinking about how all of the seabirds would want to perch on their new friend, William the squid, as he has the ability to hold them all at once.

Juliet Schreckinger

USA
Juliet Schreckinger is a Long Island, NY based artist. She currently shows her work in galleries from coast to coast, as well as internationally. She received a BFA in illustration from the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan, New York. Her work is typically created using a delicate stippling technique in pen & ink and graphite, with occasional splashes of color. Juliet’s pieces are inspired by the ocean, nature, and all of the creatures within our world. Since the time she was a child, Juliet has been fascinated by black and white photography, colorless television shows, and film noir movies. Being exposed to the lighting effects and sharp contrasts shown in these photographs and films greatly inspired the type of work that she does today. Juliet’s work is centered around giving a voice to nature and animals, with the goal of showcasing their importance in this world. Through an illustrative take on fine art, she strives to express a story in each drawing.
